Tipi Raising and Ute Heritage Program
This program involves pulling travois, setting up a Ute tipi and learning about the way of life of the native Ute people through these interactive, hands-on experiences. The children break up into groups learning about art and painting with yucca fronds, Ute history, passing around artifacts inside the tipi, the Bear Dance, making a glass beaded bracelet and participating in the friendship dance.
Pikes Peak Highway with 6th Grade MAAS--
We will travel up the Pikes Peak Highway and explore the various life zones of Colorado we encounter along the way. Be sure to pack a lunch, a water bottle and some warm layers for the summit!
Young AmeriTowne with UPES 5th Grade--
Young AmeriTowne Denver features a life-like Towne of 16 businesses plus a Towne Hall. While in AmeriTowne, students-turned-citizens experience a career for a day, they manage their personal finances, and they participate in a free enterprise economy. Students see the direct impact their actions and decisions have on themselves, their businesses, and their overall community.
Garden of the Gods--
We will get to experience the unique geological majesty of the Garden of the Gods. This field trip will cover rock types, fossils, geological processes, rock layers and formations experienced in the Park. The program begins inside the Visitor and Nature Center with hands-on activities in our geology gallery. We will watch the film How Did Those Red Rocks Get There? and explore the hands-on elements. Students are then led on a 45-minute walking adventure in our Central Garden to experience the power and wonder of geology firsthand.
